We are seeking an experienced and committed Nurse Practitioner to join our dynamic and innovative organization. The Nurse Practitioner will provide services to Project Harmony clients in a compassionate, professional, ethical and knowledgeable manner. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the medical evaluation, care and diagnosis/treatment of children with suspected sexual abuse, physical abuse and neglect. The Nurse Practitioner is also responsible for overseeing the clinical duties of the Registered Nurses on staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct clinical services, to include medical examinations of children who are victims of abuse or neglect, medication administration as required/directed by Project Harmony’s protocol and lab testing as indicated. This also includes accurate and complete electronic health record and documentation of clinical services and phone calls.
  • Provide supervision of RN clinical evaluations to ensure appropriate examinations and recommendations are being completed and as directed by the protocol. 
  • Delegate duties to the RN to help with any case management needs.
  • Provide clinical consultation to partner agencies and multidisciplinary team members regarding medical issues related to child abuse.
  • Coordination of care with families, investigators and community providers.
  • Provide child abuse education to professionals in our partner agencies and in the community.
  • Provide testimony, as needed, in criminal and/or juvenile court regarding medical examination/consultation of child abuse/neglect victims.
  • Rotate 24/7 on-call responsibilities and be flexible with schedule and call needs.
  • Other duties as assigned by Medical Program Manager.

 

Requirements

Qualifications

Education and Training

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited educational institution.
  • Licensed in Nebraska as a Nurse Practitioner and a Registered Nurse.
  • Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), pediatric and adolescent, training within six (6) months of hire.
  • Keep up to date with all continuing education requirements for state licenses and any other certifications held.

Work Experience

  • Experience in medical examination of children preferred.
  • Training and experience in the child welfare system, and working within a multidisciplinary team (MDT), preferred but not required.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to establish rapport with children/families of child abuse and neglect.
  • Demonstrate effective listening and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate problem solving skills and ability to resolve conflicts.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Outlook, Word, etc.) as well as other software and databases (EPIC, FAMCare, etc.).
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to stressful and ever-changing situations.
  • Ability to be organized and detail oriented.
  • Must possess time management skills.
  • Must respect and maintain confidentiality.

 

Other

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours; Rotate 24/7 on-call responsibilities and be flexible with schedule and call needs.
  • Must submit to a thorough criminal history background check.
  • Must have access to a vehicle, possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. 
  • Position may involve some travel, primarily within the state.
